This week in Berlin: our curators & their work featured in NFTBerlin, Nodous pop up exhibition with Folia, Panke and /rosa and more!
jpegs IRL
Our team’s looking forward to meeting everyone in Berlin this week - as we’ll be around a couple of events featuring our community and collaborating with others.
Situated in an old coin factory, NFTBerlin, starting tomorrow, May 25th, will feature art shows, a conference and a hackathon. We’re sponsoring and collaborating with the art team and happy to announce that three JPG exhibitions from some of your favorite curators will be featured in the screens in the venue. The selected exhibitions are:
Mazinaw by Terence - featuring the new body of work by the incredible EDG, curated by one of our favorite community members
Dun by William Peaster - an impossible selection of Dun’s art (impossible as all her art is stunning so it’s hard to select just a few!
The Many Faces of Tiffatronn by Osirene - since Osirene should now be getting ready for her curator course at Sotheby’s we thought it’d be nice to celebrate her and the artist :)
In addition to this, María Paula has curated and will be speaking at a panel together with Bea Ramos (Dada), Tim Daubenschütz (ex-Ascribe who was our guest writer on the newsletter) and Adina Glickstein (the editor behind the great Spike Magazine Web3 issue). The four of them will be discussing NFT history, since Adina and MP, together with Simon Denny, have been researching the origins of NFTs for several months for the purpose of writing an essay for the upcoming Taschen NFT book. The panel takes place on May 25th at 10:30 am.
María Paula will also be joining the NFTBerlin organizer Lili Feyerabend and friends, on another panel on May 26th, at 15:30 to talk about building web3 institutions.
Since we’re bringing all of our team to town, and some of us are meeting IRL for the first time, we thought Berlin would be the perfect place to do our first IRL NFT exhibition, on May 28th:
NODOUS is a one night event at /rosa featuring an exhibition of works from the NFT platform Folia and a net art archive presentation by panke.gallery and Zentrum für Netzkunst.
Drawing on our ecosystem of collaborators, the curatorial ethos for this show is one of interconnection as new media creates new modalities for artists, curators, collectors, and conference-goers to work, play, and tinker together. The exhibition reflects – and critically engages with – the reconfigured space of possibility that emerging technologies are bringing to bear on the art world and beyond. With a nod to the “nodous", it highlights the value of novel curatorial formats, rooted in artworks from across physical and digital realms.
Join us for the evening to celebrate these networked nodal protuberances while enjoying drinks, friends, and each others' de-virtualized presence.
Trent, our benevolent CEO and co-founder will also present JPG and our future plans during the event.
The artists involved are:
Petra Cortright + James Whipple
Dotcom Seance (Simon Denny, Guile Twardowski, and Cosmographia)
Folia (Sam Hart, Billy Rennekamp, Everett Williams, Dan Denorch)
Harm van den Dorpel
Joan Heemskerk
Oliver Laric
Hannah Rose Stewart
And Net art pieces restored by panke.gallery and Zentrum fur Netzkunst alongside documentary material from the initiatives' archives.
Later on, we’ll be driving to Brandenburg to team bond (though it might end up a bit like hunger games, let’s see).
If you’re not in Berlin, worry not! The exhibition will live forever on JPG, and our next stop is New York at the end of June, so surely we’ll meet somewhere!
That’s it for now, gotta go stalk some flights so I make sure everyone gets to Berlin in one piece!
The regular newsletter programming with ecosystem news will also be back shortly :)
